All About Office 365 administrator roles & Type


In this article I am writing about all about office 365 administrator roles and type of Office 365
Today I'm writing about Office 365 rules types which comes under for office 365 when we are purchasing any new subscription from the same

As it is known for everyone Office 365 comes with a set of administrator roles that we can assign to user in our organization is administrator roles map to common business function and gives those people are employed permission to do a specific task for office 365 admin Centre Office 365 will have a lot of applications and for each and every application and they will be having their own administrator like Office 2013  administrator, Exchange Administrator, SharePoint Administrator, Project server Administrator etc……
Below are the description and screenshot for office 365 admin Centre roles and types basically we can see on the screen it will be showing 3 type of Rose the first user with no administrator permission , second Global administrator and third customized administrator

  • To Access the Permission setting, click on Admin option from Office 365 Home page.
  • Select any user from the User> Active User and select user roles
  • We can make user as a Global Admin from here other said as above.

Let us describe about roles available for Office 365:

  • User (No Administrator access): assigned this role for user who should not be part of administrator or part of administrator.
  • Global administrator: The Global administrator of the Office 365 portal is also a SharePoint Online administrator. When we purchased Office 365, once we will login to the purchased tenants a team site is automatically created, and the Office 365 global admin is included as the primary Site Collection administrator for that site (if you wish to change the same we can change later also). Make sure we need to assign yourself (Administrator) a SharePoint Online license to access these services or you will receive an "Access Denied" message.
  • Customized Administrator: under this administrator role we have many of application which we can configure. See below screen shot:
  • Billing Administrator: responsible for marks purchases, manages subscriptions, manages support tickets, and monitors service health, below is the screen shot for the billing part in the Office 365.

  • Exchange Administrator: It role will manage mailboxes and anti-spam policies for our business, using the Exchange admin center. We can view all the activity reports in the Office 365 admin center. This role helps administer of Office 365, we can assign users permissions to manage your organization's email and mailboxes from the Exchange admin center. We do this by assigning them to the Exchange admin role.
  • Password administrator: Responsible for Resets passwords, manages service requests, and monitors service health. Password admins are limited to resetting passwords for users.
  • Skype for Business administrator: This role is configured for Skype Business for our organization and can view all the activity reports in the Office 365 admin center.
  • Compliance admin: Using for Manages security and compliance policies for our association.
  • Service administrator: By assigning this role to user can opens support requests with Microsoft, and views the service dashboard and message center. This is most important part for any of administrator because most of admin permission is still with MS support like checking ULS and many more. With this option we can raise request to MS and work with them to fix this issue.
  • User management administrator: Most of Management administrator task like assigned under this role of office 365 like Resets passwords, monitors service health, adds and deletes user accounts, and manages service requests.
Note: The user management admin can’t delete a global admin, create other admin roles, or reset passwords for global, billing, Exchange, SharePoint, Compliance and Skype for Business admins.
  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online: Global Administrator is having this application permission to control. There is no specific user role created for this service application.
  • SharePoint Administrator: Using SPO online admin account we can handle most of task given on the tenants, like creating site collection, creating and adding new App under the App catalogue site, we can manage the most important part of SharePoint called User profile, can do settings and more.
SharePoint Administrator use to manage the document storage for your business on SharePoint Online. We are doing this all task under the SharePoint admin center. They can also assign other people to be Site Collection administrators and Term Store administrators.
Key tasks of the SharePoint Online administrator
Below are the some of the tasks users assigned to the SharePoint Online admin role:
  • Create site collections
  • Manage site collections and global settings
  • Assign site collection administrators to manage site collections
  • Manage site collection storage limits
  • Manage SharePoint Online user profiles
Few other Application will be exist for customized administrator, it’s depend on your purchasing subscription, and the above all pointed administrator is common for Office 365.
Delegated administration: this is most important part for any application, sometime we need to give some specific permission to the user for time being, like we need to give administrator permission to the user for some time, for that time we can assign full administrator rights to the user, in that case we use called delegated administrator.
