  1. SharePoint Central admin site -> Monitoring -> Configure Usage and health Data collection and update Usage and health data collection. Health Data Collection requires system resources and may reduce performance. If you’re not sure you can start with the default setting.

  1. SharePoint Central admin site -> Monitoring -> Configure Diagnostic logging and updated Diagnostic logging. Please use the following Best Practices:
    1. Change the drive to which the server writes logs
    2. Restrict log disk space usage
    3. Use the Verbose setting sparingly
    4. Regularly back up logs
    5. Enable event log flooding protection

  1. Outgoing e-mail. If you’re Exchange Server doesn’t allow sending anonymous email messages you can use a dedicated SMTP server4 which uses the SMTP Windows Server feature.
Note: New tab added in SharePoint 2016 beta2

2.1 Farm Administrators Group

Some of the service accounts are required to be member of the SharePoint Farm Administrators

  1. Login to the DEMO SERVER Server with your account login and Go to Central admin site    http:// DEMO SERVER:2016
Add required accounts to the farm administrators group (Central Administration > Security > Manage the Farm Administrators Group):
2.2 User Profile Synchronization and My Site
Setting up User Profiles is one of the most required tasks but also one of the most problematic tasks. This section gives a consolidated view on requirements and steps to enable User Profiles.

Setting up User Profiles includes the following 4 steps:

  1. Requirements
  2. Setting up My Site Host
  3. Setting up a User Profile Service Application
  4. Starting the User Profile Service
  5. Creating a Synchronization connection e.g. to an Active Directory

2.3 Requirements

  1. During setup the SharePoint Farm account needs to be member of the local Administrators group on the server where the User Profile instance should run:

You can remove the Farm Account after setup.
After putting the SharePoint Farm account in the local Administrators Group you need to restart the server so the security token becomes active. Note: The SharePoint Farm account doesn’t need ‘Replicating Directory Changes’ in Active Directory. It’s the account used to create a new ‘Synchronization Connection’ after you have successfully created the User Profile Service Application. This step is shown later.
  1. The SharePoint Farm account also needs ‘Log on locally’ permission on the server where you are going to start the User Profile instance.
