Daily routine

Windows administrator Roles & Responsibilities


§  Windows administrator
§  Deploying windows servers and configuring using Hyper V
§  Installation and configuration windows OS
§  Windows server migration and configuration
§  Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.
§  Installing and configuring  Software or hardware
§  Monitoring the server using third party tool or inbuilt tool
§  Verify that peripherals are working properly
§  Quickly arrange repair for hardware in occasion of hardware failure
§  Monitor system performance
§  Perform periodic performance reporting and reporting the same
§  Analyzing system logs and identifying potential issues with computer systems.
§  Performing backups using DPM server
§  Perform Security Health Check of Windows servers and other compliance using system center
§  Review event and security logs and take corrective actions for all servers
§  Monitoring All Virtual server health, HDD, RAM and performance on weekly basis
§  Installing, Configuring and Managing AD / DHCP / DNS Services.
§  Creating and managing users and Ou on Active directory
§  Adding, removing, or updating  user account information, resetting passwords, etc.
§  Performing AD Replication monitoring and regular health checks on all Domain controller
§  Backups and restores for all servers
§  Group Policy Object (GPO) administration, troubleshooting, and management
§  Adding and removing machines in required domain
§  Installation and configuration Terminal servers
§  Maintaining Network Printer and scanner
§  Managing the Router and managed switch
§  Checking on daily or weekly basis RAID Configurations and status
§  Installing and managing Exchange server
§  Creating new mailbox and assigning policy and features
§  Backup Server EPMS-DS2 Installation and configuration including Storage

§  Regularly Monitoring and capturing system log files.
§  Regularly Monitoring and capturing data of server CPU , memory usage
§  Regularly monitoring Filesystems space.
§  Regularly monitoring capturing Network usage.
§  Writing automated scripts to handle routine user and sysadmin tasks.
§  Users Management and Support
§  Taking backup of important filesystems.
§  Maintaining documentation for system parameters and disk layout.

§  Educating and training users and subordinates if applicable.

§  Daily Check on Server status, mostly looking at servers with alerts/warnings (usually via a monitoring tool)
§  Daily/Weekly check on open calls (breached SLAs, most popular call category etc)
§  Daily check on server room equipment such as Air con units, extractor fans, removing trailing cables, humidity controllers etc)
§  Weekly check on members of important AD groups such as Domain Admins, Enterprise admins, Scheme admins etc
§  Daily check of AV server for alerts
§  Daily check on server room access for the previous day (if you have a system that records entries)
